Emergency on Weekends

Today, Hubby and I Went to the emergency because of My burning neck. As usual Doctor prescribed me Dermatop Prednicarbate a steroid class 3, he said it's Safe to use during pregnancy but he doubted if he's going to allow me to Put it on My face. Few minutes later he gave the instructions.

- Dermatop on neck and armpit 2x a Day for 7 days

-Dermatop on face for 3days only once a Day

-Black tea to Put/ wash My face as anti-inflammatory 3-5x a day

I doubted what if he's in My Situation, is he going to Put it on his face? My face is Not burning like My neck does. My face is just blotchy red and flaky. I don't care about how I Look today Or during withdrawals.

What I'm Most concerned about is that if the redness and burning Sensation will do Harm on the baby on My Womb.

2nd of all the First Doctor I saw at the Same Hospital Said that I can use protopic and elidel while pregnant. But this Doctor I saw today Said I can't use elidel nor protopic. But he Said it can't Harm the baby because it's Applied topically. I Even asked him if there's another Option aside from steroids, but he seemed so pissed when I asked him that and sarcastically answered what Else can we do? As if there's no other Way! He Even asked me why do I even have the ICE Packs on My neck. I Said because it Burns and it itches Moron!

It's a saturday, so it's really difficult to go on a derm clinic on Weekends. The only Choice is to go into the Hospital emergency.

No, I'm Not Buying that Dermatop. I know it will only be Good for a Few days but will back with revenge.

I‘m burning!

DAY 24-Steroid free
( I occasionally used steroids back in 2010, didn‘t even lasted for a year. May 2013 I used TS for 15 days )

DAY16- Protopic free

My neck and chest right now

armpit started to itch then burn last night

spreading like crazy it scares me

woke up with swollen eyes, forehead is dry and flaky

I never used steroids on this spot. It just appeared after I used TS last May 2013

neck is rough and whitish because of the flakes

I can‘t even turn my neck

from burning red to dark, it‘s still warm to touch

Day 24

Last Night My neck and chest area started to look very Deep red and burning. I used ice Packs while sleeping, got up a Lot in the middle of the Night to change ICE Packs and pee as well. My ob-gyne doc Said I can use Citrizine during pregnancy but opted Not too. I just want to confirm it again with My derm on our next appointment.

I'm having a Hard time turning My neck.  My armpit flared up too, it is really red and very itchy and burning like hell.

This Morning I felt that My forehead is really dry and flaky, like what Happened Last june 18. ( I was 2 weeks Off from TS)

My eyes are swollen again, don't know how Long it will Last.

I just use Vaseline on My face and neck, palmers cocoa butter on other Parts of My Body to minimize stretch marks.

I Need to be strong!!!

Puffy eyelids and light tingles

For the Last 3 days,  I noticed that My eyelids were puffy every morning and at Night time they're flaky and itchy. I don't recognize myself anymore. I just laugh at it on the outside, but on the inside I'm sad about My skin Situation.

Sometimes I also feel a needle prick on the Sides of My boobs. And New patches of rashes (eczematous like patches) are developing on My elbow and antecubital fossa. My neck Feels so tight and Rough.  Got Few pimples on My Chin. I can't sleep at Night because I feel so warm on My neck and cold on My legs and Feet.. It is really a weird Feeling. I Don't know if it's Part of the withdrawal.

Is this still Eczema or TSW?

So now I am confused after June 4, 2013 the last time I used Ecural ointment I developed Weird eczema patches on my left hand.

June 12, I‘ve decided to stop using Protopic and Elidel as well. It‘s been a week now since I stopped putting these ointment on my skin.

I don‘t know if my pregnancy is aggravating my eczema. I‘m on my 19th week by the way.

I really want to make sure that this is not Eczema anymore. I‘ve read the FAQ on the ITSAN website and I want to answer them based on my personal experience:

I do have uncontrollable, spreading eczema.- Yes, started in 2010 Eyelid Eczema, then all of a sudden down to my neck, armpits, side of the breast, finger , knuckle, arm.

I used topical steroids regularly for a period of time.

I used Desowen, Advantan for a couple of months on and off, Clobetasol for a week and there‘s this first TS that I couldn‘t recall anymore.

Topical steroids stopped working on your eczema.- Based on the answer above, Doc gave me different types of steroids. Then finally gave me Protopic in 2011 and Advantan. I used Protopic 2011 til 2013 on and off everytime I get flare ups.

When you stop using topical steroid medication, I experienced redness, burning, itching, skin is hot to the touch, swelling, and/or oozing.- I remember telling my Derm Autumn of 2010, that (Mein haut Brennt) my skin burns, it itches and it hurts. And she said I‘ve been using it for too long. I don‘t know what she meant by for too long. Advantan according to her is water based blah blah!

2013 I had my 2nd allergy test done, same old same old. Cat and dog fur, House dust mite, dust and the latest Tree pollen. Diagnosis is still Eczema!!

I haven‘t done skin biopsy yet. Doc just told me to use Protopic.

After a week of not using Protopic and 15 days steroid free, this is what I get.

Scabs around my mouth with cuts from scratching

I woke up with red and flaky forehead, eyelids, bridge of my nose and my cheeks are red.

My Lips turned dark as well, I also put TS on my lips for 3 days then another 3 days as per Doctor  prescription last May 2013.

At first the Dermatologist diagnosed the redness on my cheeks and nose as Steroid induced Rosacea. But when I got back again for a Follow up Check up, the Derm (Oberartz aka Senior Physician) assigned to me that day said that it‘s not Rosacea but rather than Eczema.

It‘s really weird because I get Eczema on the places where I never put Steroids on like my Cheeks and bridge of my nose. One factor that I‘ve read on the ITSAN website.

I guess this is my first Flare up after being Protopic and Steroid free. There‘s a long way to go, as they say. It‘s kind of depressing specially when you are pregnant. I expect to have that Pregnancy Glow or at least have my Eczema go into Remission but I guess I‘m not one of those lucky pregnant women with Eczema. This is my First Baby and I want to enjoy it despite of me looking like this. I believe that each day is one day closer to being eczema-free!

I‘m Pregnant- Officially off from protopic and elidel

June 13, 2013---I went to the OB-Gyne today due to missed period and I recently found out that I‘m pregnant! 18 weeks to be exact. I was really surprised, mixed emotions. Speechless. I didn‘t know what to expect at first. Then I became worried because of all those topical creams I used for my eczema.

Today, I also called my Dermatologist and told her about my pregnancy. I wasn‘t able to talk to her personally because she was on a meeting, so I left a message to her Secretary thru the phone. The Secretary called me back to forward the message form my Derm, and guess what? she said I can still use Protopic and Elidel.-Hell no! This time I really decided to stop using them.

My legs are really itchy right now, specially before bed time. Probably from pregnancy hormones. Now I know why I am having crazy skin lately. It could be eczema or it could be my ranging hormones.

This is my first Pregnancy. I hope and Pray that he would be healthy and allergy-free.

Confusion and Denial

My Perleche/cheleitis is not healing, It‘s been a week now and it hurts to open my mouth. Irritating! I can‘t eat well.

I really want to quit using protopic but I‘m so confused. But I think I really need to do it ASAP.

I blame myself why did I, in the first place, allowed myself to use Ecural TS on my thumb last May 2013 under doctor‘s prescription.

It was also the time I later found out about ITSAN and TSW.

I always tell myself- If not now, when? when will I quit using it? Stop being in Denial, Stop prolonging the agony. These are the things that are going through my mind everyday.

I can‘t afford to lose my job and I can‘t afford looking like shit.

I will lose my job if they see me flaking all over my body. Working in a Food industry is really a bad timing specially if you‘re going through withdrawal.

They will think its unhygienic and as if you got a contagious disease.

Dear God please provide me the strength I need.

Some Documentation about my eczema

The first time I used steroids (Desowen and Advantan) was back in 2010. I used it for a couple of months but not longer than 6 months. In April 2012 I went home for 2 months vacation, I suddenly had a minor eyelid flare up. Dermatologist prescribed me Clobetasole ointment for 7 days. Since I don‘t want to spoil my vacation I set my allergy mind aside and enjoyed my vacay. Went to the beach and enjoyed the sun. After that my eczema was not bad at all. Then I returned back in Germany. Happy days are over!

Autumn Came then my eczema is here again spreading down my neck and fingers.

The following pictures are where I have my eczema spots year 2012-2013.

I‘ve been treating them only with Protopic during my flare ups and moisturizer. Not until April 2013 that I started using Ecural Steroid Ointment for my thumb eczema

After all this time, after reading blogs and massive research on the Internet. I didn‘t know that I was suffering from Steroid induced Eczema and withdrawing from it.

After eating Chinese food I noticed the Redness on my cheeks and around the mouth last February 28, 2013. I thought it was the Mono-sodium Glutamate or MSG typically found on chinese foods.

Redness on cheeks

February 27, 2013 my knuckle is red again and right thumb is starting to itch and form tiny vesicles

Picture taken June 9, 2013--My Middle finger‘s knuckle looks like an old grandma‘s knuckle from chronic eczema, it looks ok here but it‘s starting to itch again.

Back to zero

As what I've Said on My last Post, I was protopic free for the past 3 days and TS free Since Last June 4,2013. Since My TS was over, I suddenly developed rashes on My arms and My nape. For the Last 2 years that I've used Protopic on and Off, I only had minimal red Spots (according to My Doc it's Rosacea) on My face and occasional flarring.

Today June 10,2013- Went to the derm for My Check up and she Said those were Not Rosacea. Those Red Spots on My Face are also Eczema. Damn It they have different diagnosis everytime!

Went home Feeling disappointed because I have to use protopic on My nummural eczema and some other Spots. By the Way I have different types and shapes of Eczema spreading on My Body. These rashes on My Arms right now only came Out After I stopped the TS treatment. I didn't Have when I use protopic.

I also Asked My Derm about light theraphy and she Said if I undergo light theraphy we'll be using steroids and stop using protopic Or Elidel.  I Changed My mind, I don't wanna go back with TS. I also asked her for a prescription for My Mattress Encasing against Dust mites. Insurance got it covered. Thank God!

Still thinking positive that this will be over someday.

About me:

My current skin condition

Last May 2013 I used Ecural ointment for my right thumb eczema. My neck flared up again a week ago. I applied protopic for a couple of days. Then I read protopic adverse effect  on ITSAN Forum and decided to go cold turkey with protopic and steroid.
Discoloration on my neck with pimple from Protopic use

Discoloration on my neck
my neck

A new Rash near my nape. I just noticed it today and it‘s very itchy and dry.

The left side of my Breast with discoloration from rashes. I got these around the first week of June.

I‘m steroid free for the last 5 days and counting. Protopic free for the last 3 days. This is my beginning from TSW. In time I will be Eczema free! keeping the faith =)

P.S I have an appoinment tomorrow at the doctor because of the rashes on my breast. We‘ll see what‘s the latest diagnosis.

Products I‘ve used and currently using

I stopped using protopic 3 days ago
I still use the emollient for my face prescribed by my Dermatologist.
Oilatium fragrance free cream specially for eczema or any other dry skin condition.
Dermalex repair for Eczema and it‘s Steroid free!
Cetaphil for my dry skin patches

I used to use Almond oil with my Urea lotion or any moisturizer but I stopped using it because my dermatologist told me to wait till they prove that I‘m not allergic to almonds. (patch test-negative)

Emu Oil- I also mix this with my body lotion. It is moisturizing. It kind of tamed my eczema back then when mixed with weleda calendula baby cream. Not using this anymore due to animal cruelty. Emu oil is made of emu bird‘s fat

*Not promoting any product here. These weren‘t sponsored by some company.
*What works for me, may not work for you and vice versa

I bathe with Dead sea Bath salts 1-2x a week and no irritating bath foam at all.
I just take a shower on normal days.
Bought it at Local drugstore. Dead sea salt is best for Sensitive and problematic skin.

History of my Eczema

When I was still a baby my mom told me that I had scaly skin all over my body. They didn‘t know what was wrong with me. Not until they discovered that I was allergic to Cow‘s milk. They fed me with soya milk instead. I wonder why my mom did not breast fed me..Then after 2 years I outgrew my Cow‘s milk allergy like what normal allergic babies do.

Then I turned 5 years old, I got eczema behind my knees. I am not pretty sure what my mom used to cure it.

Puberty went normal just like any other teenager with occasional pimples. That awkward stage that I would like to fast forward. *lol

The real journey started on October 2010 that I suddenly had itchy, flaking, red, burning eyelids. That‘s when I got my first steroid ointment (I can‘t recall the name of the steroid) from a Dermatologist. I was diagnosed with Eyelid Dermatitis. I had Allergy patch test with result of Dog and Cat fur allergy, Dust mite allergy. I was instructed to use steroid for a week. Few days later my eyelid allergy was gone, I was so happy because I‘ll be having a visitor from Dubai and my Birthday is coming up. I thought I was cured but then again it became worse. The redness, flaking, itchiness happened again. I used the ointment on and off only.

2011 I came back to my Dermatologist again to show her my armpit and neck. It was itchy and red. I asked her why is it now spreading down. She said I have Eczema. I just need to avoid the allergens. We don‘t even have a pet at home and I also bought a pillow and blanket encasing for allergic people. She said that I was using the steroid for too long. (But that was she instructed me). As far as i can remember I used the steroids on and off for about 3 months. Then she gave me a new prescription which is Protopic. It Burns for 2-3 days after application,  after that I noticed that the redness was gone. I came back for follow up check up told her that protopic burns like hell. She gave me Elidel for my eczema. I find Elidel not that bad, it doesn‘t burn or anything. But my eczema kept on spreading from one side of the neck to another, one armpit to another and my right middle finger.

Sometime in 2012 I went straight to a Dermatologist/allergist in The Hospital. Assessed me and gathered my history and at the end They said the same thing, I have eczema. I need to use Protopic for it. Well they‘re Doctors they know what they‘re doing -thought to myself. There‘s nothing I can do.

After a couple of months I went back for my Follow-up check up. My eczema was at bay everytime I have a follow up check up. They said that i was doing good with protopic blah blah.

February 2013, I suddenly had Perioral Dermatitis and used Erythromycin as prescribed for 5 days. Few weeks later I developed Lip eczema. My Clinic Dermatologist gave me Ecural ointment for 3 days for my lip eczema (oh I‘m back to steroids).

Finally had my appointment at the Hospital for a check up and I told my derma the new steroid I applied on my lips. He was somehow shocked, according to him it‘s potent for the lips. And oh, I now have Steroid induced Rosacea at the age of 28. My eczema is now spreading from right middle finger to my thumb.

Imagine it all started with an eyelid eczema back in 2010. I was so devastated.

Last May 2013, because of my Vesicular eczema of the right thumb. Yes it was kind off oozing and disgusting! Doc instructed me to use Ecural ointment alternately with protopic. The treatment ended Last June 4. I also had my 2nd allergy patch test, I now have tree pollen allergy as well.

After few days I got some weird red chicken like patches on my right arm. I googled it and Keratosis Pilaris came up but according to my derma it‘s Eczema.

Kind of weird because after the Steroid use I suddenly developed weird eczema patches on my arm even on the sides of my breast. Then I searched the internet and found ITSAN.ORG and Topical steroid withdrawal or Red skin Syndrome.

Now, This is all about my Steroid induced Eczema! How great is that. It all started with the real eczema because of steroid use I got steroid induced eczema.

I aslo stopped the application of Protopic and we‘ll see how I get through with my TSW.
